The OpenMachineMonitoring Project

Hi, and welcome to the OpenMachineMonitoring blog!

What is OpenMachineMonitoring?

OpenMachineMonitoring is an open-source tool for keeping track of machine activity in manufacturing facilities.

Aimed at SME manufacturers, the tool is designed to be accessible and simple to set up and use. Also, thanks to being open source, OpenMachineMonitoring users have full control and can adapt the code to suit their own needs as well as add completely new functionality if they want.

Why OpenMachineMonitoring?

Machine monitoring is often a good first step into digital transformation especially for smaller companies.

However, despite the fact that there are plenty of very capable tools that offer machine monitoring, the rate of adoption has been relatively slow.

SMEs often find it hard to justify investing in new technologies when their current operations seem adequate. The case for change can be easy to ignore or postpone indefinitely.

This is where OpenMachineMonitoring comes in.

I started working on OpenMachineMonitoring in July 2023 with the aim to give SME manufacturers a different option from the paid-for platforms on the market. An option where they wouldn’t have to commit to a relationship with a third-party vendor, and an option where they have full control over the operational and functionality of the tool.
